Physician Specialist Faculty Position Neurodevelopmental Disabilities or Developmental Behavioral Pediatrics Oregon Health & Science University’s Eugene Campus   The Institute on Development and Disability (IDD) within Oregon Health & Science University’s (OHSU’s) School of Medicine, Department of Pediatrics is seeking qualified candidates who are board eligible or board certified in neurodevelopmental disabilities or developmental behavioral pediatrics at the rank of Assistant to Associate .  Successful candidates will have strong interest and demonstrated commitment to being effective clinician educators and scholars in serving children and youth with a broad range of neurodevelopmental disabilities.  We are also seeking candidates who have the interest and potential to assume leadership responsibilities in service and teaching. In particular, candidates with proven leadership appropriate to serve as the Child Development and Rehabilitation Center’s (CDRC’s) Eugene Medical Director at the Eugene location are encouraged to apply. The CDRC Eugene Medical Director facilitates and supports the provision of efficient, high quality individual and family centered care to patients with developmental disabilities, complex special health needs, and their families. This individual collaborates closely with IDD senior leadership (including the IDD Director, IDD Administrator, and CDRC Clinical Director), as well as IDD discipline directors (similar to division heads) to execute the Institute’s mission at the Eugene location.   IDD is housed within OHU’s Department of Pediatrics.  Extensive interdisciplinary programs serve children and youth   with neurodevelopmental disabilities, birth anomalies and autism spectrum disorder.  IDD also serves as Oregon’s Title V program for children and youth with complex special health needs, sponsors one of 67 University Centers for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDDs), hosts the LEND program and multiple accredited training programs, including fellowships in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities and Developmental Behavioral Pediatrics.  The developmental behavioral pediatric fellowship program is based in Eugene, providing opportunities for intensive mentoring.  Pediatric residents, medical students, and trainees in other disciplines also rotate at the Eugene campus.   IDD’s clinical arm known as the Child Development and Rehabilitation Center, is Oregon’s leading academic health organization dedicated to delivering interdisciplinary patient care throughout Oregon and neighboring states.   As an important part of this endeavor, the CDRC maintains a well-staffed full time outpatient satellite program in Eugene.  We are interested in recruiting a neurodevelopmental disabilities or developmental behavioral pediatrician to Eugene’s multi-disciplinary team of physicians, advanced practitioners, and allied health providers.  The Eugene office is deeply engaged in innovative educational programs, scholarship, statewide public health efforts, and advocacy activities.  We also have an active rural outreach program that serves children in communities where specialized care is rare.   The Eugene CDRC is currently located on University of Oregon’s campus, which promotes opportunities of research collaboration.  Eugene is a beautiful, affordable university town, with an excellent public school system, nestled in the southern end of the Willamette Valley, an hour’s drive to the mountains or coast. In 2024 the program will be moving to a new stand-alone location approximately one mile from the University of Oregon campus. The Research Assistant Professor is responsible for the development and management of a research program related to identification and characterization of human monoclonal antibodies against viral pathogens or other closely related immunology-based topics. The research should include a particular focus on the intersection of viral infection and the innate and adaptive immune systems. The individual is expected to develop a research program that will be sustained with external research award support directly to the individual, as well as to research collaborators. The position is responsible for leading or contributing to the publication of manuscripts, progress reports, abstracts, and other project proposals, as well as being responsible for writing grants to continue to develop their own funding. Duties may include overseeing personnel, graduate students and postdoctoral fellows as needed. Contributing to and participating in laboratory meetings to report and discuss experimental results is expected.   This position requires a dedicated, detail-oriented scientist who can apply and adapt previous experience as well as quickly learn new experimental and research methods. The position requires directed efforts in all areas of research, including but not limited to nonhuman primate research, designing and executing research protocols and experiments, analyzing and interpreting data, dissemination of projects and research findings in publications or national meetings. The individual will be required to contribute to multiple projects within the research group conducting studies related to HIV vaccine design, immunology, and pathogenesis studies using nonhuman primate models.   Working directly with primates in a research setting is required. The successful candidate will be required to participate in laboratory experiments to support ongoing research projects by training to work in BSL-2 and BSL-2+ laboratories that requires manipulation of virus and infectious materials. Training to work with biohazard materials and working within biosafety regulations in a laboratory setting is required. BSL-3 training is optional but may be required depending on the specific research program development of the candidate.

Clinical Activities (not related to teaching or research): This position works with a multidisciplinary team to provide comprehensive care to gynecologic oncology patients. - The primary duties include direct patient care in the ambulatory setting, providing care for gynecologic oncology patients. The spectrum of care includes office procedures, colposcopy, vulvar biopsy, complex dysplasia management, and basic well woman care.   - This APP is expected to collaborate with multiple OHSU departments in the care of patients, including radiation oncology, surgical oncology, urology, pharmacy, palliative care. Scholarly Activities (research/writing, abstracts, grant supported work, presentations, etc.): Like all OHSU faculty members, advanced practice providers are expected to have some scholarly activity, this may be limited to educating learners as outlined below, but may also include research, and other grant supported work or academic papers and presentations in disciplines related to their field of expertise. APP faculty members are expected to participate in clinical research as needed, often with the help of trained research support staff and senior faculty principal investigators.    Education (include types of teaching and types of student taught): This position provides clinical education to fellows, residents, and medical students participating in OB/GYN rotations. As part of the multidisciplinary team charged with educating learners in the gynecologic oncology environment this person would be expected to provide feedback and evaluation, both formally and informally, of learners working in gynecologic oncology. This faculty member will provide education and feedback to students and trainees. This person would also be expected to provide feedback and guidance in the development and implementation of an anticipated Gynecologic Oncology Fellowship program.    Administrative Activities: As an OHSU faculty member, this position will be required to participate in faculty meetings at the division and department level. Clinical: This position is in the Department of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation, with a secondary appointment in the Division of Medical Oncology.   This position will help to provide both inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation care in non-surgical clinics for patients as they navigate recovery from cancer treatment. They will help patients to assess condition, needs and expectations to develop a treatment plan that meets their rehabilitation needs. As OHSU is developing a new inpatient PM&R consultation service we expect this appointee to participate in both general and oncologic rehabilitation initial consultations. The ongoing outpatient rehabilitation care will focus on building a cancer focused rehabilitation clinic as well as growing our general rehabilitation clinics. This position will work with the both the PM&R Section and the Division of Medical Oncology to determine a clinical schedule that will help meet the needs of both the inpatient and outpatient population. The inpatient versus outpatient split can be adjusted over time to best fit the clinical need. This position will be expected to take daytime consults, but no overnight call. Preference given to applicants who have completed a PM&R Oncology Rehabilitation fellowship.   Education: Teaches trainees and support staff in their area of professional expertise. Teaching is done through assigned lectures to be given during the course of the year and through teaching in the course of performing their own job by modeling best practices, mentoring trainees, guiding learning through delegating graduated and focused levels of responsibility. Assistant Professors have a demonstrated competence in teaching and are knowledgeable about relevant guidelines from all applicable regulating bodies. (E.g. ACGME competencies for clinical faculty).   Research: May maintain a program of scholarly research activity directed toward improved understanding of the complex rehabilitation needs after a diagnosis of cancer. May develop and direct scholarly research activities focused toward improving the educational foundation within the Knight Cancer Institute. The fellow will gain significant operative experience in all aspects of gender-affirming surgery and is expected to have prior ample experience in microsurgical, craniofacial and aesthetic surgery. Approximately 1 day a week is spent in the outpatient setting seeing patients in clinic, the other 4 days are spent in the operating room. 5 full time fellowship faculty specializing in gender-affirming surgery (3 plastic surgeons and 2 urologists) provides a robust surgical volume. The fellow is required to attend the weekly Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery teaching conference and will present once a year and will also attend monthly multidisciplinary transgender health conference. Complications will be presented at the Surgical Mortality and Morbidity Conference (M&M). The fellow will be provided support to attend the annual USPATH or WPATH conference. If a podium or poster presentation is accepted, the fellow may provided with the opportunity to attend an additional annual conference. The fellow participates in the education and training of medical students, house staff, and the regional medical community. The fellow will take general plastic surgery call at OHSU or community partner hospitals up to approximately 3-4 days a month and 1 weekend every two months.

Clinical Activities (not related to teaching or research): This position works with a multidisciplinary team to provide comprehensive care to urogynecology patients. This position will require expertise in clinical practice and administration within the full range of urogynecology outpatient services. The spectrum of care includes but is not limited to: overactive bladder and incontinence, painful bladder/interstitial cystitis, prolapse not yet evaluated by Gynecologist (i.e. referrals from PCPs), constipation, recurrent UTIs, pessary fittings and maintenance, bladder instillations, urodynamics, Genitourinary syndrome of Menopause with support for NAMS certification, and sexual dysfunction.   Scholarly Activities (research/writing, abstracts, grant supported work, presentations, etc.): Like all OHSU faculty members, advanced practice providers are expected to have some scholarly activity, this may be limited to educating learners as outlined below, but may also include research, and other grant supported work or academic papers and presentations in disciplines related to their field of expertise. APP faculty members are expected to participate in clinical research as needed, often with the help of trained research support staff and senior faculty principal investigators.   Education Activities (include types of teaching and types of student taught): This position provides clinical education to fellows, residents, and medical students participating in OB/GYN rotations. As part of the multidisciplinary team charged with educating learners in the urogynecology environment this person would be expected to provide feedback and evaluation, both formally and informally, of learners working in urogynecology. This faculty member will provide education and feedback to students and trainees.   Administrative Activities: As an OHSU faculty member, this position will be required to participate in faculty meetings at the division and department level. All faculty members are expected to aid the division head and department chair in providing direction to the division and the department both on a day to day basis and as part of ongoing strategic planning and strategic planning.   Other Activities: APP faculty members may be called upon to serve on OHSU committees and in other activities as directed by the department chair or division head in furtherance of division, department, or OHSU goals and objectives.
