The Program Director must administer and maintain an educational environment conducive to educating the residents in each of the ACGME competency areas. The Program Director must: - oversee and ensure the quality of didactic and clinical education in all sites that participate in the program; - approve a local director at each participating site who is accountable for resident education; - approve the selection of program faculty as appropriate; - evaluate program faculty and approve the continued participation of program faculty based on evaluation; - monitor resident supervision at all participating sites; - oversee development and execution of a comprehensive curriculum that meets the specialty requirements for training in that specialty, including overall goals and rotation-specific goals and objectives. - oversee development and execution of a competency-based evaluation system to monitor the progress of individual residents throughout the program. - continue implementation process of Entrustable Professional Activities (EPAs) program - ensure that faculty evaluates resident performance for each educational experience and documents the evaluation. - ensure that the program completes and documents a formal systematic evaluation of the program at least annually, specifically assessing the effectiveness of the program in meeting the overall goals of training in that specialty. Ensure that the attributes of the residency program are explicitly defined: resident performance, program quality, faculty development, graduate performance. - develop program-specific policies as discussed in the ACGME Institutional Requirements for selection, evaluation, and promotion of residents, disciplinary action, and supervision of residents. - prepare and submit all information required and requested by the ACGME, including but not limited to the program information forms and annual program resident updates to the ADS, and ensure that the information submitted is accurate and complete; - provide each resident with documented semiannual evaluation of performance with feedback; - ensure compliance with grievance and due process procedures as set forth in the Institutional Requirements and implemented by the sponsoring institution; - provide verification of residency education for all residents, including those who leave the program prior to completion; implement policies and procedures consistent with the institutional and program requirements for resident duty hours and the working environment, including moonlighting, and, to that end, must: - distribute these policies and procedures to the residents and faculty; - monitor resident clinical and education work hours, according to sponsoring institutional policies, with a frequency sufficient to ensure compliance with ACGME requirements; - adjust schedules as necessary to mitigate excessive service demands and/or fatigue; and, - if applicable, monitor the demands of at-home call and adjust schedules as necessary to mitigate excessive service demands and/or fatigue. - monitor the need for and ensure the provision of back up support systems when patient care responsibilities are unusually difficult or prolonged; create contingency plans for unexpected absences due to illness, inclement weather, bereavement, family leave, etc, and assist with communication to site directors, faculty, and trainees as needed. - comply with the sponsoring institution’s written policies and procedures, including those specified in the Institutional Requirements, for selection, evaluation and promotion of residents, disciplinary action, and supervision of residents; - be familiar with and comply with ACGME and Review Committee policies and procedures as outlined in the ACGME Manual of Policies and Procedures; - obtain review and approval of the sponsoring institution’s GMEC/DIO before submitting to the ACGME information or requests for the following: - all applications for ACGME accreditation of new programs; - changes in resident complement; - major changes in program structure or length of training; progress reports requested by the Review Committee; - responses to all proposed adverse actions; - requests for increases or any change to resident duty hours; - voluntary withdrawals of ACGME-accredited programs; - requests for appeal of an adverse action; - appeal presentations to a Board of Appeal or the ACGME; and, - proposals to ACGME for approval of innovative educational approaches. - obtain DIO review and co-signature on all program information forms, as well as any correspondence or document submitted to the ACGME that addresses: - program citations, and/or - request for changes in the program that would have significant impact, including financial, on the program or institution. - devote his or her principal effort to the program. - designate other well-qualified surgeons to assist in the supervision and education of the residents; - be responsible for all clinical assignments and input into the teaching staff appointments at all sites; - ensure that conferences should be scheduled to permit resident attendance on a regular basis, and resident time must be protected from interruption by routine clinical duties. Document of attendance by 75% of residents at the core conferences must be achieved; and, - ensure that the following types of conferences must exist within a program: - a course or a structured series of lectures that ensures education in the basic and clinical sciences fundamental to surgery, including technological advances that relate to surgery and the care of patients with surgical diseases as well as education in critical thinking, design of experiments and evaluation of data; - regular organized clinical teaching, such as grand rounds, ward rounds, and clinical conferences; - a weekly morbidity and mortality or quality improvement conference. - along with the physician faculty, assess the technical competence of each resident. - ensure that each resident has met all requirements for American Board of Surgery eligibility.

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) for the Department of Neurological Surgery possesses specialized knowledge and skills in the care of adult patients with neurological disorders. Provides clinical modeling and education to departmental staff, house staff, and nursing staff.    Inpatient duties: In the operative and inpatient setting, patient care duties include: Assists with neurosurgical procedures, including craniotomies, spinal procedures (including instrumentations) and microscopic procedures. Conducts hospital rounds daily on all patients, including intensive care units. Writes orders and progress notes. Performs all admission history and physicals and inpatient consultations. Orders appropriate laboratory and radiographic tests, such as MRIs, CT scans, myelograms, bone scans and other radiographic studies.   Outpatient duties: In the outpatient setting, patient care duties include evaluation of both new patients and follow-ups and the completion of pre-operative assessments; triaging calls, prescription refill management, and care coordination.   This position is primarily Monday to Friday, with scheduled on-call shifts and weekend coverage from home or in the hospital.

The Division of Metabolic Health & Disease at the Oregon National Primate Research Center (ONPRC) and Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) is inviting applications for an Assistant or Associate Professor position to strengthen the Division’s research program in the areas of metabolism, physiology and endocrinology. Successful candidates would join a premier translational research facility focused on nonhuman primate models of human disease. ONPRC research is carried out in the laboratories of 46 principal investigators in the areas of metabolism, neuroscience, reproduction, genetics, and infectious disease using a colony of more than 4,700 nonhuman primates. Competitive applicants will have an established research program in the general area of metabolic disease (obesity, type 2 diabetes, nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, cardiometabolic disease), endocrinology and metabolism, pancreatic and/or islet biology or central regulation of body weight or glucose homeostasis.   We seek an outstanding scientist at the Assistant or Associate Professor level in a relevant discipline with demonstrated ability to obtain independent research funding and a track record of impactful publications. The successful candidate will have or develop an independent research program in metabolic research, as well as demonstrate the desire to collaborate with investigators in the highly diverse research environment of ONPRC. While current or previous nonhuman primate research experience is beneficial, all candidates with clinical or rodent research backgrounds will receive equal consideration, with the understanding that they would transition to at a research program that includes at least 50% of nonhuman primate-based research within a reasonable period.

The CRNA is expected to comply with scope of practice, other laws, regulations, OHSU policy, and other applicable professional standards of practice.   Clinical Service: - Provides pediatric anesthesia care within the care team model commensurate with education, licensure, certification, and within limits of experience and expertise. - In collaboration with and under the direct supervision of a medically directing anesthesiologist: - Perform pre-anesthetic assessment on all patients. - Interpretation and treatment of all pertinent lab and assessment data. - Obtain additional lab data, medical testing and additional consultation as appropriate. - Develop and implement an anesthetic plan. - Proper selection and placement of invasive and non-invasive modalities for monitoring and evaluating patients throughout the perioperative period. - Proper selection and administration of anesthetics, adjuvant drugs, fluids and blood products necessary to manage an anesthetic. - Verify that all standard and special anesthesia equipment is operational prior to the anesthetic. - Induction, maintenance and emergence from anesthesia. - Appropriate transfer of care to the postoperative receiving unit. - Communicate clinically significant changes in patient condition on surgical intervention to the medically directing anesthesiologist and jointly develop modifications to the anesthesia plan, as indicated. - In conjunction with other care team members, is responsible for: - Using all equipment appropriately and in a safe manner. - Lift, move, and position patients utilizing correct body mechanics - Promotes best practice in all areas of patient care. - Facilitate operating room capacity, case flow and minimize case delays. - Promote infection control and participate in quality and patient safety initiatives. Scholarly Activities: - Participates in clinical research projects, as approved by the APOM Vice Chair for Research, conducted throughout the perioperative period. - Participates in ongoing APOM CQI activities as directed by the Chair or appropriate Vice Chair. Physician Specialist Faculty Position Neurodevelopmental Disabilities or Developmental Behavioral Pediatrics Oregon Health & Science University’s Eugene Campus   The Institute on Development and Disability (IDD) within Oregon Health & Science University’s (OHSU’s) School of Medicine, Department of Pediatrics is seeking qualified candidates who are board eligible or board certified in neurodevelopmental disabilities or developmental behavioral pediatrics at the rank of Assistant to Associate .  Successful candidates will have strong interest and demonstrated commitment to being effective clinician educators and scholars in serving children and youth with a broad range of neurodevelopmental disabilities.  We are also seeking candidates who have the interest and potential to assume leadership responsibilities in service and teaching. In particular, candidates with proven leadership appropriate to serve as the Child Development and Rehabilitation Center’s (CDRC’s) Eugene Medical Director at the Eugene location are encouraged to apply. The CDRC Eugene Medical Director facilitates and supports the provision of efficient, high quality individual and family centered care to patients with developmental disabilities, complex special health needs, and their families. This individual collaborates closely with IDD senior leadership (including the IDD Director, IDD Administrator, and CDRC Clinical Director), as well as IDD discipline directors (similar to division heads) to execute the Institute’s mission at the Eugene location.   IDD is housed within OHU’s Department of Pediatrics.  Extensive interdisciplinary programs serve children and youth   with neurodevelopmental disabilities, birth anomalies and autism spectrum disorder.  IDD also serves as Oregon’s Title V program for children and youth with complex special health needs, sponsors one of 67 University Centers for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDDs), hosts the LEND program and multiple accredited training programs, including fellowships in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities and Developmental Behavioral Pediatrics.  The developmental behavioral pediatric fellowship program is based in Eugene, providing opportunities for intensive mentoring.  Pediatric residents, medical students, and trainees in other disciplines also rotate at the Eugene campus.   IDD’s clinical arm known as the Child Development and Rehabilitation Center, is Oregon’s leading academic health organization dedicated to delivering interdisciplinary patient care throughout Oregon and neighboring states.   As an important part of this endeavor, the CDRC maintains a well-staffed full time outpatient satellite program in Eugene.  We are interested in recruiting a neurodevelopmental disabilities or developmental behavioral pediatrician to Eugene’s multi-disciplinary team of physicians, advanced practitioners, and allied health providers.  The Eugene office is deeply engaged in innovative educational programs, scholarship, statewide public health efforts, and advocacy activities.  We also have an active rural outreach program that serves children in communities where specialized care is rare.   The Eugene CDRC is currently located on University of Oregon’s campus, which promotes opportunities of research collaboration.  Eugene is a beautiful, affordable university town, with an excellent public school system, nestled in the southern end of the Willamette Valley, an hour’s drive to the mountains or coast. The Research Assistant Professor is responsible for the development and management of a research program related to identification and characterization of human monoclonal antibodies against viral pathogens or other closely related immunology-based topics. The research should include a particular focus on the intersection of viral infection and the innate and adaptive immune systems. The position requires directed efforts in all areas of research, including but not limited to nonhuman primate research, designing and executing research protocols and experiments, analyzing and interpreting data, dissemination of projects and research findings in publications or national meetings. The individual will be required to contribute to multiple projects within the research group conducting studies related to HIV vaccine design, immunology, and pathogenesis studies using nonhuman primate models.   Working directly with primates in a research setting is required. The successful candidate will be required to participate in laboratory experiments to support ongoing research projects by training to work in BSL-2 and BSL-2+ laboratories that requires manipulation of virus and infectious materials. Clinical Activities (not related to teaching or research): This position works with a multidisciplinary team to provide comprehensive care to gynecologic oncology patients. - The primary duties include direct patient care in the ambulatory setting, providing care for gynecologic oncology patients. Scholarly Activities (research/writing, abstracts, grant supported work, presentations, etc.): Like all OHSU faculty members, advanced practice providers are expected to have some scholarly activity, this may be limited to educating learners as outlined below, but may also include research, and other grant supported work or academic papers and presentations in disciplines related to their field of expertise. APP faculty members are expected to participate in clinical research as needed, often with the help of trained research support staff and senior faculty principal investigators.    Education (include types of teaching and types of student taught): This position provides clinical education to fellows, residents, and medical students participating in OB/GYN rotations. As part of the multidisciplinary team charged with educating learners in the gynecologic oncology environment this person would be expected to provide feedback and evaluation, both formally and informally, of learners working in gynecologic oncology. This faculty member will provide education and feedback to students and trainees. This person would also be expected to provide feedback and guidance in the development and implementation of an anticipated Gynecologic Oncology Fellowship program.    Administrative Activities: As an OHSU faculty member, this position will be required to participate in faculty meetings at the division and department level.
