Specific duties:  The candidate will be expected to establish a high quality research program, establish collaborations as part of a collegial group of basic and clinical researchers, supervise a laboratory team, successfully apply for external grant support, publish manuscripts in high quality journals, and participate in occasional seminars, teaching and mentoring of interns.   Specific areas of research to be given highest priority would include:  1) Development of novel IRD disease models in rodents and primates or using human IPSCs; 2) Development of novel therapeutic agents for macular degeneration and IRDs including but not limited to: small molecule agents, gene augmentation, anti-sense oligonucleotides, gene editing and cell-based therapies.   The candidate would join a group of highly successful and collaborative researchers and clinician-scientists in the field of retinal disease.  The Casey Eye Institute has extraordinary facilities and resources for research in this area, including the Ophthalmic Genetics Division, a Clinical Trial center currently conducting a dozen IRD clinical trials, the Center for Ophthalmic Optics and Lasers that includes the pioneers in OCT and OCT angiography imaging, high level facilities for small animal research, and close collaboration with the Oregon National Primate Research Center which has state-of-the-art facilities for ophthalmic research in nonhuman primates and the availability of naturally-occurring and gene-edited IRD models.

The OHSU Department of Dermatology seeks a Director for its nationally recognized Contact Dermatitis Program in Portland Oregon.    Founded by the legendary Dr. Fran Storrs, the clinic serves as a vital statewide and regional referral source, seeing patients from all over Oregon, and neighboring states. The referral based-clinic focuses almost exclusively on patients with dermatitis and occupational skin disorders. The Director will lead and grow clinical services, maintain and evolve a training program for resident physicians, maintain a program of scholarly/research activities, and be consulting resource to OHSU and the Oregon dermatology community.   Additional research-related start-up support is available for applicants with an interest in these areas. The director will work closely with Dr. Eric Simpson, Director of the Center of Excellence in Inflammatory Diseases, to create an effective multidisciplinary team of allergists, pediatric dermatologists, immunologists, and other relevant specialists.    This position may also have opportunities for additional clinics in Medical Dermatology.   Depending on the qualifications of the person selected, the position may be filled as an Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor. Salary shall be commensurate with rank. Clinical and academic bonuses are available based upon productivity.

The Staff Physician is the primary medical/clinical leader of the Interdisciplinary Treatment Team, and provides psychiatric and medical care to patients under his/her care. The Unit Physician is responsible for the admission and discharge of patients to the Unit, psychiatric and physical examinations, formulations of diagnosis and treatment plans, and performing clinical treatments directly as well as monitoring clinical treatments done by others. Specific duties include performing psychiatric, physical and neurological examinations, writing orders for patient care, conducting meetings of the ward Treatment Team to prepare individual patient Treatment Plans and giving clinical leadership to services that implement them. The Unit Physician will collaborate with the Unit Director to provide leadership to the Treatment Team in formulating and implementing plans for operation of the ward therapeutic environment, and will provide direct service to patients such as group and individual counseling. The Unit Physician will complete the medical record in accordance with requirements of Medical Staff Bylaws, rules and regulations, and hospital policies, prepare correspondence communicating findings from patient evaluations to hospital administration, judges, PSRB, and attorneys. The Unit Physician will serve on medical staff committees, participate in peer review, quality assurance, and utilization review activities, assist with training and continuing education of Hospital Staff, participate in continuing education, maintain qualifications to perform techniques of basic life support (CPR), and attend medical staff meetings. In addition to assigned unit responsibilities, physicians shall participate in mutually agreed upon reasonable activities in community and hospital settings of direct interest to OHSU and DHS. The primary work site will be the Salem Campus of the Oregon State Hospital.   OHSU is a teaching facility and you may be expected to teach medical students and residents in the clinical setting as well as through assigned lectures to be given during the course of the year. You will receive your teaching assignments from the Director of Education.   There are resources available for start-up research and on-going support. Faculty interested in doing research may apply for departmental research assistance and non-clinical time through the Director of Research.   Administrative and other duties may be assigned based upon department needs and your areas of expertise and interest. There will be opportunities to participate in departmental management and to serve on institutional committees.
