Clinical Responsibilities - Primary Duties: Providing patient care in the outpatient setting for patients with pituitary disorders, as well as preoperative and postoperative care, wound care, unscheduled visits, and chronic follow-up as determined by the faculty. This includes prompt and professional communication, face-to-face customer contact skills, crisis management, use of available information technology, standard complaint processing, flexibility in coverage of internal service needs, and continuous application of process improvement methods and skills. Scheduled clinics will include in-person, telemedicine, and virtual visits as permitted by OHSU infrastructure and policies, and managed care contract requirements. - Clinical care includes, but is not limited to: - a) Evaluates preoperative and postoperative care; - b) Communicates appropriately with other healthcare professionals to discuss relevant aspects of patient care; prescribes short-term and long-term medications; and responds to peer-to-peer insurance requests for imaging, medication orders. Responds to patient/family messages (e.g, phone, MyChart, letters) in a timely manner to address clinical problems or questions regarding the care plan or test results in collaboration with the nurses within the Department of Neurological Surgery. Determines appropriate actions directly or in consultation with physician faculty as needed. Works in direct collaboration with APPs, physicians, and surgeons to streamline patient care, communication, coordination and follow-up care. Performs minor procedures, such as endocrine testing, suture and staple removal, ventriculoperitoneal shunt tap, and lumbar punctures. Patient education is also a key duty of the position. Position also includes coverage on inpatient neurosurgical units in infrequent situations when there is an urgent need. The Department of Psychiatry at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) has an outstanding opportunity for a BE/BC Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist interested in serving at the Unity Center for Behavioral Health, a 22-bed CAP Psychiatric Unit in a larger hospital which includes 80 Adult beds and a Psychiatric Emergency Service in Portland, Oregon. Unity Center is a collaborative effort to address the mental health needs of the community. OHSU’s Department of Psychiatry, in partnership with other major Oregon health systems, uses a non-coercive, highly community-oriented treatment program, which will prevent hospitalization when possible, and return patients to community services as soon as feasible. This is a unique opportunity for a creative, energetic child and adolescent psychiatrist to treat, teach, and advance their academic interests. The incumbent will work as a full-time Pediatric Inpatient Physician at the Unity Center for Behavioral Health.  As part of your duties and base pay at Unity Center, you will be expected to take regular nightly pager call duties at Unity Center, in addition to covering weekend calls, as assigned, with other faculty on weekends and holidays, up to 10 weekends in a year. You may work more weekends if you are interested. For weekend or holiday calls, you will be paid at a per diem rate. The incumbent will be allowed approximately 0.1 FTE time to pursue academic interests of their choosing, including clinical program development, curriculum development, or scholarship, typically one full day every two weeks. The hospital also serves as a major training site for the department’s child psychiatric fellowship training program, in addition to OHSU medical students and other health professional trainees. The incumbent will be expected to teach child psychiatric fellows, psychiatric residents, NP students, and medical students in the clinical setting as well as through assigned lectures to be given during the year in support of this mission.

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) is a practitioner certified through the Oregon State Board of Nursing (NP) and authorized to practice within the parameters described in Division 50 of the Oregon Nurse Practice Act (Oregon Revised Statute Chapter 678) or is a Physician Assistant licensed to practice by the Oregon Medical Board (PA). The APP is credentialed by the Credentials Committee and approved by the Professional Board of OHSU and other locations as required to practice in the hospital setting and to perform such procedures as authorized by the Credentials Committee and by the Professional Board. The APP is authorized to prescribe medications according to the state and federal guidelines and laws.   The APP for the OHSU Spine Center and the Department of Neurological Surgery possesses specialized knowledge and skills in the care of patients with brain and spinal tumors, brain and spinal injuries, spinal disorders, cerebral aneurysms, and other neurological disorders. Overall responsibilities include accountability for planning, coordination, and delivery of clinical services. Overall responsibilities include inpatient care and clinical support operations for the Department of Neurological Surgery. Works in partnership with faculty physicians to provide excellent clinical care and customer services in furthering OHSU mission of excellence in education, research and scholarship, clinical practice and community service. This position will primarily serve neurosurgery patients at the OHSU Marquam Hill site.   This position reports to (supervisor): Lead faculty neurosurgeon and Practice Manager in the Spine Center for clinical operations; Department of Neurological Surgery Chair for academic appointment; Department of Neurological Surgery Administrator for administrative responsibilities.   The duties of this position include: Clinical Responsibilities - Provide inpatient care and follow-up from admission through discharge. Complex medical patient care may include, but is not limited to: rounding on a daily basis with the faculty, developing and implementing clinical plans of care and/or protocols for inpatients on the neurosurgery service with common conditions/diagnoses/procedures; educating the house staff and nursing staff on protocols, with the goal of enhancing quality of care, patient services, and decreasing length of inpatient stay; participating with hospital/unit staff in evaluating results of protocols and continually improving effectiveness of the same; working actively with hospital and unit staff to rapidly develop and implement discharge plans for inpatients on the service and to address length of stay issues; promoting and maintaining health of inpatients through the use of ancillary services, educational materials, and counseling of patients and families; providing house staff training/education in utilization of plans of care to improve patient services and outcomes of treatment; providing and/or participating in clinical in-service training and staff educational programs for the service. - Weekend Shift Coverage: Provide scheduled hospital coverage outside of normal business hours, which includes Saturday and Sunday rounds, discharging patients, and performing continuity of care duties on a variable rotating basis, according to department protocols and policy. - General Responsibilities: Patient education, participation in quality improvement activities, program development, staff development, and provision of education and community outreach. Works in partnership with faculty APPs and physicians to provide excellent clinical care and customer services in furthering OHSU mission of excellence in education, research and scholarship, clinical practice and community service. Clinical: This position is responsible for providing initial and ongoing care for patients with thyroid, parathyroid, and squamous cell cancer as part of a multidisciplinary clinic. 50% of the practice is expected to include endocrine surgery and provide radiofrequency ablation. Following all customer service standards as outlined above. - Operating Room Responsibilities: Provide operating room and procedural assistance to Bariatric, Vascular and General surgeons as determined by the Division Head or their designee(s). Includes assistance in performing laparoscopic and robotic surgeries to include, bariatric sleeves gastrectomy, gastric bypass, duodenal switch, foregut, colorectal, and vascular procedures. General Responsibilities - Teaching: Providing teaching of General Surgery surgical and diagnostic treatments to medical students, interns, residents, inpatient general surgery nursing staff, and other Division support staff on the inpatient and/or outpatient service. Providing and/or participating in clinical in-services and staff educational programs for the outpatient & inpatient General Surgery service. - Call Coverage: Provide pager coverage on some week nights Monday through Thursday, and OR call coverage on occasional weekends which includes Saturday morning rounds, on a variable rotating basis.
