Department Overview

The Department of Molecular & Medical Genetics has an immediate opening for a full-time (1.0 FTE) clinical genetic counselor. This position will support the Metabolic genetics clinic and inpatient genetics services.

 

The selected candidate will join our multidisciplinary Metabolic team which includes medical geneticists, nurse practitioners, registered dieticians, a genetic counselor, a nurse, a clinic coordinator, and food room coordinator. The clinic provides care for patients of all ages, including newborn screening follow-up for inborn errors of metabolism.

Function/Duties of Position

  • The candidate will be actively involved in genetic counseling services for outpatient clinics including in-person patient care and telehealth appointments, and attendance at weekly team conferences.
  • The counselor will participate in overall coordination of patient care including intake, assessment, counseling, test coordination, and follow-up.
  • The selected candidate will support geneticists on inpatient genetic consultations in pediatric acute and critical care and the adult hospital.
  • Duties may include obtaining family history, consenting, test coordination, and ensuring appropriate results and clinical follow-up.
  • In addition to direct patient care, our genetic counselors serve a primary role in education to medical trainees, genetic counseling students and other health care providers.
  • Participation in research and publication is also encouraged for interested faculty. 

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Human Genetics/Genetic Counseling from an ACGC accredited training program
  • Board Certified or an Active Candidate through the ABGC
  • Hold, or be eligible, for Oregon state and Washington state genetic counseling licensure 

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1-3 years of clinical genetic counseling experience preferred.
