The duties of this position include: providing clinical care to General Ophthalmology and Cornea patients of the University Hospital and Clinics and affiliated hospitals and clinics; engaging in public service through consultative activities with non-university groups as approved by Department Chair; providing staffing to residents seeing patients; teaching residents and house staff diseases and issues; performing research relevant to corneal medicine.

 

Clinical:  The Cornea Division Chief and Department Chairman will assign the clinical schedule, which will be based in Portland, Oregon (Marquam Hill).  Clinical FTE will be assigned initially at 0.25.  Surgical block time within the Cornea Division Block time will be specified by the Chairman and Division Chief. Once a sufficient number of cases are obtained, number to be determined by the Chairman and Division Chief, this scheduled time will be no less than ½ day per week.  This schedule may be increased as the department and division feel there is need, within the capacity of the Cornea Division Block.  Furthermore, if the surgical case numbers fall to an insufficient number, it may also be reduced as determined by the Chairman.

 

Education:  OHSU is a teaching facility and you will be expected to teach medical students and residents as well through assigned lectures to be given during the course of the year.

 

Research:  Research FTE will be initially assigned at 0.75 FTE.  The focus of the research will be applications of data analytics to clinical diagnosis and population health in corneal diseases.

 

Administration:  Administrative and other duties may be assigned based on department needs and your areas of expertise and interest. There will be opportunities to participate in departmental management and to serve on institutional committees.

Requires a current, valid MD license and completion of an accredited residency program and corneal fellowship training.  Must be board certified or eligible by the American Board of Ophthalmology.

 

Strong clinical and patient assessment skills. Detail oriented and meticulous in all aspects of work.  Requires excellent organizational skills and strong communication and patient relations skills.  Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact well with employees at all levels of the organization is essential. Demonstrated innovation, initiative, and creative problem-solving skills are imperative.  Must be pro-active and detail oriented. Ability to work well independently and multi-task is critical.  Ability to plan and organize technical work and to adapt to a changing work environment is critical.   Must be able to assess and develop work tasks and systems in order to optimize clinic performance.
