The Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, and Critical Care Medicine (PACCM) provides expert care for patients with lung diseases, allergies and immunological disorders, sleep disorders, and post-critical illness needs in our outpatient clinics, pulmonary and allergy patients in our hospitals, and critically ill patients in our intensive care units. The advanced practice provider (APP) provides patient care in a multidisciplinary team model in the Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU). The Medical Intensive Care Unit treats a wide range of medically critically ill patients. Care in the MICU follows evidence-based guidelines and clinical pathways developed by the multidisciplinary team. The APP faculty works in collaboration with faculty physicians, fellows and residents to provide high quality clinical care and provide education and training to learners. The APP faculty works in conjunction with other faculty and OHSU leadership to promote OHSU's missions of excellence in patient care, teaching, research, and public service in a 24/7/365 environment; as well as the strategic goals to excel in patient safety, quality, cost-effective and efficient care. The appointee shall provide services as assigned by the supervisor in furtherance of the university's missions and goals of teaching, research, patient care, outreach and public service. Nocturnist position: APPs hired as ‘nocturnists’ cover overnight shifts for a particular service line. The minimum differential for nocturnist positions should be 20% and can be met by an increase in compensation, a decrease inclinical hour requirements per FTE, or a combination of both. Nocturnist compensation is subject to adjustment related to institutional or contractual changes.

• Clinical: The primary duties include direct patient care, including:
• Assessment and treatment of patients in the MICU in collaboration with a critical care trained physician faculty, including performance of basic ICU procedures including arterial and central line placement, intubation, paracentesis, thoracentesis, lumbar puncture.
• Rounding on patients in the MICU with physician faculty, fellows and residents, nurses, pharmacists, and RTs, and developing and implementing clinical plans of care.
• Consultation with specialty care providers when appropriate.
• Communication with patients and families about medical conditions, treatment plans, and progress
• Working with hospital and unit staff to develop and implement discharge plans for patients in the ICU, and promote patient health through education and counseling.
• Timely and accurate documentation in the electronic medical record.
• Collaboration with other members of the multidisciplinary and interprofessional care team to ensure optimal patient care and continuously improve quality of care.
• Adherence to best practice protocols and policies
• Delivery of care compliant with the regulations and guidelines by the relevant regulatory bodies.
• Treating all patients and co-workers with dignity and respect in alignment with the OHSU Code of Conduct.
• Supporting a safe and welcoming environment where all can contribute and prosper.
• The APP faculty is expected to work an average of 13 hours three times per week and will work a fair share of weekday, night and weekend shifts. If desired, the APP faculty may choose a night shift-only assignment after an appropriate orientation period.
• Education and Quality Improvement: This position participates in the division’s teaching activities, including divisional conferences, student and fellow didactics and on OHSU committees as expected and approved by the Division and Department. Specific expectations also include:
• Orientation and education of trainees and nursing staff on the care standards and protocols in the MICU.
• Education of nursing staff, fellows, residents and medical students in formal and informal settings.
• Participation in all relevant conferences and team meetings.
• 10% protected time for education, quality, and other professional development.
• Collaboration with multidisciplinary and interprofessional care team members to establish or revise clinical pathways and patient education materials.
• Administration: There are no specific administrative responsibilities assigned at this time. Administrative and other duties may be assigned based on department needs and your areas of expertise and interest, including opportunities to participate in departmental management and to serve on institutional committees.

• Nursing Advanced Practice Provider
• Successful completion of a Master Degree in Nursing or Master of Science in Nursing in the specialty of Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP), or Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AG ACNP) from an accredited program.
• Current RN and NP licensure with the Oregon Board of Nursing.
• Current ANCC Certification in the area of specialization.
• Current ACLS certification.
• DEA certification

• Physician Assistant Advanced Practice Provider 
• Successful completion of a Master Degree in Physician Assistant Studies from an accredited program.
• Current PA licensure with the Oregon Medical Board.
• Current NCCPA Certification.
• Current ACLS certification.

In addition to the above: 

• 3-5 years of previous experience as provider in critical care setting, ideally with experience in a medical intensive care setting.
• interest in learning advanced clinical skills required to practice in the ICU environment
