    The Botswana Global Health Program leverages OHSU’s rich history of leadership and innovation in clinical care, medical education, and quality improvement through a long-term global health partnership with Scottish Livingstone Hospital [SLH]. OHSU operates this program in partnership with Botswana Ministry of Health, Botswana Harvard AIDS Institute Partnership (BHP) and Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital (BIDMC). The program focuses on local capacity building and healthcare delivery improvement through clinical stewardship, and innovative quality improvement (QI) and education interventions in order to prepare tomorrow’s health leaders, educators, and practitioners to advance health equity and strengthen health systems domestically and around the world.

    Function/Duties of Position

    • Serves as the flagship training location for 35+ US global health residents annually (including a core 20+ from OHSU and BIDMC) with an experience that focuses on improving standards of healthcare delivery and addressing healthcare inequities
    • Supports research and mentorship in quality and process improvement with SLH and BHP
    • Provides local oversight for the training of internal medicine interns from Botswana’s National Medical Internship Program through the Botswana Ministry of Health and Wellness
    • Advances curriculum development and education for Batswana medical students, interns, SLH medical officers and nurses, and rotating US residents
    • Annually mentors 3-4 BIDMC Medicine Global Health Fellows (junior faculty) during their 6-month tenure in country
    • The position, based at Scottish Livingstone Hospital in Molepolole, Botswana, includes 4 weeks per year of clinical service on the OHSU Medicine Hospitalist service in Portland, OR

    Required Qualifications

    • Completion of residency training in internal medicine, or medicine/pediatrics
    • Board certified/eligible
    • Oregon Medical License
    • Previous global health clinical or academic experience
