Function/Duties of Position

The Advanced Practice Provider is a faculty member credentialed and privileged to serve as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner.

The position consists of four 10-hour days per week.

Competitive salary commensurate with experience.

 

This role is aligned with the OHSU Dept of Pediatrics Mission of clinical, advocacy, research, and educational excellence.

 

Clinical Responsibilities:

  • Rounds on patients on 10S on a daily basis with faculty, trainees, and students
  • Develops, implements, and evaluates clinical plans of care or guidelines for patients with common conditions, diagnoses, and/or procedures
  • Assures the safe, efficient, high quality and customer-oriented management of children including but not limited to completing a comprehensive assessment of the patient's status
  • Develops, monitors and revises evidence-based treatment plans that address diagnoses, patterns of disease, risk factors, and treatment alternatives
  • Interprets diagnostic tests, prescribes and manages medications and other therapies
  • Provides management and treatment of common acute and chronic health diagnoses in children
  • Provides health teaching with an emphasis on prevention of illness and health maintenance
  • Refers patients to other healthcare professionals as necessary

 

Education/Advocacy:

  • Provides clinical education to fellows, residents, medical and APP students participating in pediatric rotations
  • Provides feedback and evaluation, both formally and informally, of learners and trainees
  • Provides feedback and guidance in the continuing development and improvement of the Pediatric Hematology-Oncology Fellowship program

Scholarship/Research:

  • APP faculty are expected to have a scholarly activity. This may include educating learners, research, grant supported work, quality improvement projects, academic papers and/or presentations in disciplines related to their field of expertise.
  • APP faculty members are often called upon to partner with other providers and members of the department or division research support staff in research activity.  

Administrative Activities:

  • Participates in quality improvement efforts within the division or hospital
  • Participates in faculty meetings at the division, department, APP level
  • Attends relevant conferences/committees as assigned by Division head or lead APP
  • Strongly encouraged to pursue academic and professional development through attendance and/or participation at national/regional conferences is strongly encouraged

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree or higher as required by specific Advanced Provider role and:
    • Physician Assistant requirements
      • Current & Active Physician Assistant license for State of Oregon
      • Current Physician Assistant National Board Certification
    • Nurse Practitioner requirements
      • Current Acute Care/Primary Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner license for the state of Oregon
      • State of Oregon Nurse Practitioner Prescriptive Privileges
      • Primary Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioners also need prior experience in Pediatric Hematology-Oncology inpatient service
  • Appropriate National board certification
  • Current active DEA license
  • Ability to manage a heavy workload with multiple priorities and inflexible deadlines
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally, and in writing

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in Pediatrics, particularly Pediatric Hematology-Oncology
