OHSU Family Medicine is part of OHSU School of Medicine. OHSU Family Medicine is focused on family health. Department of Family Medicine at Richmond is a Federally Qualified Health Center, also known as a Community Health Center. We provide preventive, primary and specialty care for you, your children, your spouse, your parents and your grandparents.

 

Family Medicine clinics are home to more than 120,000 patients every year, but despite the large number, our physicians, nurses and other clinic staff know their patients - and their families - by name. We provide all that family medicine has to offer - from maternity care through geriatrics. The appointee shall provide services as assigned by the supervisor in furtherance of the university’s missions and goals of teaching, research, patient care, outreach and public service.

Salary Range: $116,688 - $174,063 Offer Amount Based on Relevant Years of Experience

Function/Duties of Position

Teaching:

  • As an academic position, this person will be expected to teach within the scope of their profession and as needed for the department of family medicine.

Clinical:

  • Practice eight half days per week with direct patient care; and the supervision of other learners at the clinic. Provide psychiatric evaluations, including differential diagnoses and developing plans of care.
  • Work within the context of a team-based integrated behavioral medicine approach: welcome and encourage medical provider "warm hand offs", be open to new patient referrals, provide informal consultations, and refer patients back to PCPs for ongoing medication management when stable.
  • Provide psychiatric medication management consistent with state of the art knowledge and practice, using appropriate screening tools, laboratory tests, and monitoring for adverse effects of medications and interactions. Use appropriate cost containment strategies.
  • Provide brief psychotherapy within the context of medication management visits, utilizing evidenced based strategies, such as CBT, Mindfulness training, and motivational interviewing skills as needed within our multidisciplinary team-based Behavioral Health approach.
  • Collaborate with other behavioral health staff through regular case discussion and referrals to and from clinic social workers and psychology staff.
  • Attend clinic staff meetings, training sessions, and planning and problem solving sessions as well as clinic and department provider meetings.
  • Help to identify patients who may benefit from psychiatric evaluation and assistance in team meetings, case consultations and other professional discussions.
  • Provide crisis intervention and suicide assessment and intervention to patients as needed by the clinic.
  • Establish and maintain liaison with other related professional services to ensure that clinical requirements are provided for patients. While the primary appointment and responsibilities are within the Department of Family Medicine, ongoing relationships and collaboration with OHSU Psychiatry and community mental health partners (e.g. Cascadia and Lifeworks) are expected.
  • Develop and maintain a trusting and partnering relationship with assigned patients in order to assist in the success of treatment. Obtain complete and accurate information in a courteous, respectful and culturally sensitive manner.
  • Patient notes to be written in EMR in order to provide adequate information for other health care providers.
  • Compensation for the position will include a University base academic salary and a clinical incentive system based on productivity, as well as, personal initiative.

Required Qualifications

  • Current Nurse Practitioner license for the state of Oregon, State of Oregon Nurse Practitioner Prescriptive Privileges, and DEA certification.

  • Graduation from an approved Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner program.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prefer two years’ experience in a mental health setting.
