Department Overview

The appointee shall provide services as assigned by the supervisor in furtherance of the university’s missions and goals of teaching, research, patient care, outreach and public service.

Function/Duties of Position

  • The Speech Pathologist will be required to perform direct patient care to patients (adult) with all manner of voice disorders, paradoxical vocal fold movement, upper airway disorders and dysphagia. Service provision is primarily outpatient in-person and virtual but includes inpatient services.
  • Inpatient services will be part of a weekend rotation or PRN coverage, which is primarily adult dysphagia and post-operative communication on the Head and Neck service. 
  • The Speech Pathologist will be required to perform program development to increase referral base. 
  • The Speech Pathologist will be required to train and supervise speech pathology interns and clinical fellows. The Speech Pathologist will be involved at the level commensurate with their training and expertise in the education of medical students, residents and otolaryngology fellows. 
  • The Speech Pathologist will be required to provide in-service/continuing education training to regional allied health professionals. 
  • The Speech Pathologist will be involved in the ongoing research within the division. The Speech Pathologist may develop and implement research protocols in relation to their clinical, supervision or teaching practices.  

Required Qualifications

  • Applicants should have the minimum of a master's degree in speech-language pathology and ASHA certification.
  • This position requires 1-2 years in the assessment and treatment of adult voice disorders and dysphagia, in-person and virtual service provision. Some training available.
  • Experience in rehabilitation after Head and Neck Cancer treatment beneficial.
  • Clinical experiences with video endoscopy/stroboscopy, fluoroscopy, FEES and acoustic assessments (e.g. PRAAT) required.
  • ASHA CCC’s and eligibility for Oregon State Licensure required.
