Department Overview

The Division of Hematology & Medical Oncology is seeking a resource Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) in our Community Oncology clinics.

 

The Division of Hematology & Medical Oncology currently has over 110 faculty and is comprised of programs in the general hematology, solid tumor oncology, bone marrow transplant & cellular therapy, hematological malignancies, and palliative medicine. The Division also oversees faculty in a number of community practices, known as Community Hematology and Oncology (CHO), and maintains a strong collaboration with the VA Medical Center, linked to the main campus by a skybridge.  Our clinical practices enroll more than 5,000 new patients each year.

 

The Division, the largest component of the Knight Cancer Institute, has a goal of providing outstanding patient care, ensuring access to high quality clinical and translational clinical trials, and integration of basic research. The Division has grown significantly over the past decade, and significant growth is projected.

Function/Duties of Position

This Advanced Practice Provider provides patient care in accordance with allied health privileges granted by OHSU and consistent with the credentials and the philosophy of the Department of Medicine, University Hospitals and Clinics.

 

This position will allow for additional provider coverage in our Community Oncology clinics.

 

Functions and duties of the position include:

  • Address urgent needs, evaluate patient situation, and determine the tolerance of the treatment;
  • Review labs and modify orders as needed;
  • See new patients in conjunction with attending physician;
  • Write chemotherapy orders when treatment plan has been initiated by attending physician in compliance with credentialed privileges;
  • Manage patient anticoagulation, as appropriate;
  • Work closely with phone triage staff to manage patient issues and problems, and see patients emergently as add-on/walk-ins, as appropriate, or requested by attending physician;
  • Admit patients to community hospitals, as appropriate, in collaboration with attending physician;
  • Round on patients in community hospitals, as requested by attending physician, in compliance with community hospital credentialed privileges;
  • Function in a manner which maintains the confidentiality and privacy of each patient, promotes a positive relationship with all health team members and supports the policies and procedures of the University Hospitals and Clinics.

Required Qualifications

Physician Assistant: Valid/Current State of Oregon Physician Assistant License, State of Oregon Licensure under Community Oncology MD

 

Nurse Practitioner:  Valid State of Oregon Registered Nurse license, current Nurse Practitioner license for the state of Oregon, State of Oregon Nurse Practitioner Prescriptive Privileges

 

BLS Certification

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least one year of experience as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant
  • At least one year of oncology experience
