Department Overview

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) is a faculty member credentialed and privileged as a Physician Assistant (PA) or an Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) (in a respective Specialty area; i.e., Nurse Practitioner (NP), Certified Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA), Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM), Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS)). The APP is a member of the OHSU Professional Staff practicing in accordance with the respective bylaws. The APP shall provide services as assigned by the supervisor in furtherance of the university¿s missions and goals of teaching, research, patient care, outreach and public service. The APP is expected to comply with scope of practice, other laws, regulations, OHSU policy, and other applicable professional standards of practice.

Function/Duties of Position

Clinical Activities (not related to teaching or research):

This position provides primary clinical care in the Center for Women’s Health primary care clinic. This position works with a multidisciplinary team to provide comprehensive primary care to women, both adult and adolescent. This care may expand to male patients. This faculty member is expected to provide an outstanding level of clinical performance. The expectation is that clinical performance be delivered in a manner that is compliant with appropriate regulations and guidelines (JCAHO, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid, and all other state, federal, and institutional regulatory guidelines).

 

Scholarly Activities (research/writing, abstracts, grant supported work, presentations, etc.):

Like all OHSU OB/Gyn faculty members, advanced practice providers are expected to have some scholarly activity, this may be limited to educating learners as outlined below, but may also include research, and other grant supported work or academic papers and presentations in disciplines related to their field of expertise. APP faculty members are often called upon to partner with other providers and members of the department or division research support staff in research activity. APP faculty members are expected to participate in clinical research as needed, often with the help of trained research support staff and senior faculty principal investigators.

 

Education (include types of teaching and types of student taught):

This position provides clinical education to fellows, residents, and medical students participating in either OB/Gyn, Internal Medicine or Family Medicine rotations. As part of the multidisciplinary team charged with educating learners in the OB/Gyn or Primary Care environment, this person would be expected to provide feedback and evaluation, both formally and informally, of learners working in the CWH Primary Care Clinic. This person would also be expected to provide feedback and guidance in the continuing development and improvement of educational programs in OB/Gyn and possibly in primary care educational programs.


Administrative Activities:

As an OHSU faculty member this person would be required to participate in faculty meetings at the division and department level. All Ob/Gyn faculty members are expected to aid the division head and department chair in providing direction to the division and the department both on a day to day basis and as part of ongoing strategic planning and strategic planning.

 

Other Activities:

APP faculty members may be called upon to serve on OHSU committees and in other activities as directed by the department chair or division head in furtherance of division, department, or OHSU goals and objectives.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree as required by specific Advanced Practice Provider role.

  • 3 – 5 years clinical experience as an APP that demonstrates ability to fulfill responsibilities for the specific role.

  • Demonstrated ability to satisfy standards of performance delineated by law and associated professional practice standards, the latter set forth as an addendum to the position description.

  • Ability to manage heavy workload with multiple priorities and inflexible deadlines.

  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

  • Proficient in the use of computing hardware and software, including personal computing equipment, electronic medical record, word processing and spreadsheet software.

  • Regular and consistent attendance at work

  • Current licensure as required by specific Advanced Practice Provider governing board(s).
