Department Overview

The Department of Molecular and Medical Genetics at Oregon Health & Science University has an immediate opening for a full-time (1.0 FTE) Genetic Counselor specializing in cancer genetics at our NCI-Designated Cancer Center. This position will be highly involved in the development and implementation of a comprehensive high risk cancer predisposition clinic. 

The selected candidate will join our team of six genetic counselors specializing in cancer genetics, and be actively involved in the expansion of cancer genetic services at our NCI-Designated Cancer Center.

Function/Duties of Position

  • Reviews referrals received for high risk cancer predisposition clinic
  • Requests patient records as needed
  • Determines appropriate scheduling for patients
  • Works with specialists to develop and implement care plan
  • Assists in maintaining database/tracking patient surveillance and care
  • Provides pre- and/or post-test genetic counseling to patients and families with an inherited cancer syndrome or increased risk of cancer in absence of gene mutation 
  • Coordinates genetic testing
  • Discusses genetic test result with the patient and appropriate/referring provider(s)
  • Serve a primary role in education to medical trainees, genetic counseling graduate students and other health care providers
  • May be involved in recruiting and/or consenting patients to appropriate registries and/or ongoing trials

Required Qualifications

Qualified candidate will have a Master's degree in Human Genetics/Genetic Counseling from an ABGC accredited training program and will be Board Certified or an Active Candidate through the ABMG or ABGC. The candidate will also have, or be eligible for, Oregon state and Washington state Genetic Counseling licensure.
