The Oregon National Primate Research Center (ONPRC) is located 12 miles west of the OHSU main campus, and sits on 162 acres of land featuring forested areas, research and administration buildings, indoor and outdoor animal housing, a pond, and 2-mile perimeter walking path. Our mission is to improve human health and the quality of life through the support of nonhuman primate research programs that advance our knowledge of the causes, preventions, treatments, and cures of debilitating diseases.
The Division of Metabolic Health & Disease at the Oregon National Primate Research Center (ONPRC) and Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) is inviting applications for an Assistant or Associate Professor position to strengthen the Division’s research program in the areas of metabolism, physiology and endocrinology. Successful candidates would join a premier translational research facility focused on nonhuman primate models of human disease. ONPRC research is carried out in the laboratories of 46 principal investigators in the areas of metabolism, neuroscience, reproduction, genetics, and infectious disease using a colony of more than 4,700 nonhuman primates. Competitive applicants will have an established research program in the general area of metabolic disease (obesity, type 2 diabetes, nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, cardiometabolic disease), endocrinology and metabolism, pancreatic and/or islet biology or central regulation of body weight or glucose homeostasis.
We seek an outstanding scientist at the Assistant or Associate Professor level in a relevant discipline with demonstrated ability to obtain independent research funding and a track record of impactful publications. The successful candidate will have or develop an independent research program in metabolic research, as well as demonstrate the desire to collaborate with investigators in the highly diverse research environment of ONPRC. While current or previous nonhuman primate research experience is beneficial, all candidates with clinical or rodent research backgrounds will receive equal consideration, with the understanding that they would transition to at a research program that includes at least 50% of nonhuman primate-based research within a reasonable period.
MD, DVM, and/or PhD degree in a relevant discipline with a track record in obtaining independent research funding and publications.
A research program in metabolic research will be preferred, but qualified candidates with research interests in related areas such as neuroscience, reproduction, genetics, or infectious disease could be considered if the research program would allow for a transition into research areas aligned with the mission of the Division of Metabolic Health & Disease.
