Department Overview

The Vollum Institute is a privately endowed research institute at Oregon Health & Science University dedicated to basic research that will lead to new treatments for neurological and psychiatric diseases. Vollum scientists have broad-ranging interests that coalesce around molecular neurobiology and cellular physiology. Their work has transformed the field of neuroscience and, in particular, have provided important advances in the study of synaptic transmission, neuronal development, neurotransmitter transporters, ion channels and the neurobiology of disease.

Function/Duties of Position

  • Coordination of laboratory resources and personnel in achieving experimental goals; hiring, training and direct supervision of junior faculty and staff.
  • Conduct and publish leading research with the focus on fundamental areas of neuroscience, whose research focuses on any aspect of molecular and cellular neuroscience, genetics, neurodevelopment or signal transduction.
  • Teaching is not required but encouraged for mentoring graduate students and postdocs.

Required Qualifications

  • Ph.D. or M.D. required with at least several years of postdoctoral experience, as well as a strong record of research success and an interest in training graduate students.
