Department Overview

The Department of Pathology has a collegial faculty, five subspecialty fellowships, residency program, and post-sophomore student fellowship program. Our autopsy service is valued across the institution for its contributions to patient care and the learning environment, and we are supported by excellent molecular genetic laboratories and a state-of-the-art core laboratory.

 

OHSU offers a variety of collaborative research opportunities through the Knight Cancer Institute, which holds the NCI’s highest designation as a Comprehensive Cancer Center, the Knight Cardiovascular Institute, the Center for Spatial Systems Biomedicine and other interdisciplinary centers and institutes.

Function/Duties of Position

This position will serve as Medical Director for the Autopsy service. Clinical responsibilities include primary coverage of the autopsy service, with additional duties in surgical pathology, including frozen section coverage and on call coverage as equitable with other Anatomic Pathology faculty.

 

The candidate will serve as rotation director for the residency program autopsy rotation and be willing to embrace teaching of medical students, as well as the training of medical student fellows, residents, and clinical fellows in Pathology. Research is encouraged, including both self-initiated and collaborative projects within OHSU.  

 

Administrative responsibilities include oversight of the Autopsy Service, which includes oversight of autopsy policies and procedures and compliance with accreditation requirements in partnership with Hospital Laboratory Services. Responsibilities include participation in committees and councils of OHSU; outreach and public service programs and professional societies with the knowledge and consent of the Chair.

Required Qualifications

  • Board certification in Anatomic Pathology or Anatomic Pathology and Clinical Pathology
  • Interest in providing the highest quality medical care and medical education
  • Interest in actively participating in clinical scholar-type research resulting in publication

Preferred Qualifications

The best-qualified candidate will be a recognized diagnostic expert in autopsy pathology with additional expertise in heart and lung pathology, and demonstrate exceptional communication skills, a positive attitude, and aptitude for leadership
